We don't have set rules up yet, but unless we get some free time it is looking to be an expert tournament. Not setting anything in stone just yet, but rules are coming!

We actually do not control the rules, UGS will be running this tournament. Visit their website http://www.ugspro.com for more info!

Hello!

I thoguht I had posted a similar post ealier, but since it's either not here or it's been deleted, I will post again.

I am the one who ran the Guitar Hero tourney over the last several years. Let me share with you how it's worked and that it has been a very successful tourney. We choose the Expert level. If UGS is contracted to run this tourney, they have given me no instruction except provided me with brackets after I give them the names of the competitors. I am limited to how many consoles I have for this tourney as to how many can play. I believe I ran 36 through last year. The brackets are set up randomly by the UGS.

Pairings are called and posted on the wall outside the room. Updated as we go along. It runs as a single elimination. Songs are chosen at random, by me, as I have never played the game before. I've learned a lot about the game from the people who sign up so we start with something fairly simple and work our way harder as the tourney progresses.

Last year, I had 2 consoles, a PS3 and an XBox console. (If I remember correctly.) I'm not a gamer, myself. Our finals last year were exciting. Much better than the Rock Band finals which were played on stage at last year's event. We should have had Guitar Hero up there, the crowd would have gone nuts! We couldn't keep the watchers quiet in our room last year during the finals because it was intense and close.

We started this tourney on time and completed it before the allotted time for the tourney, thanks to the dedicated players. Slots fill up fast for this tourney, so if you are serious about it, you need to get there early.

If you are not going to be around because you are playing in another tourney when I call your pairing, it's important that you share this with me before you go off. Otherwise, there is a 10 minute timer on you. If you don't show up in 10 minutes, you are eliminated, unless you have made arrangements beforehand. Your friends may call you on your cell phone, I've seen all sorts of ways people get up with the competitors, but just make sure you are there when you are called. That's why I post pairings on the outside of the door, to make sure you know when you are getting close to being called.

I hope this has helped. If you have any other questions about how this tourney was run, please let me know. I have been asked to run it again this year (well I was asked, I'm not sure if Mr. Everett has changed his mind or not) as it was one of the most successfully run tourneys in the entire expo. I heard no complaints from the competitors.

I really think there should be some set rules that are given out when people sign up. I know last year all i knew is i had to play some1 on expert. Didn't know if hyperspeed would be on, what songs would be excluded, etc. I think that some good rules would be no hyperspeed unless both players agree to it and set aside certain songs/tiers to not play until a certain round (ie. 7th and 8th tiers are not allowed to be used until the final 3 rounds and through the fire and flames cannot be played until the finals or something similar) I'm pretty sure i remember reading the rules on UGS' website prior to going and if i remember the majority of them on the site were not used. Also i think we need a better system for selecting the song to play, even something like a game of rock paper scissors and the winner picks the song would be good haha.

Thank you for looking for ways to improve this tourney. I will check out the rules sometime this week at the UGS site. Rock, paper, scissors may be a good idea. Make things interesting. Having set rules for all competitors to read when signing up should not be a problem. May even post them up on the wall beside pairings. Thank you for all your suggestions. It's people like you who make this tourney even better!

Yes, thank you for pointing out my mistake from last year. I didn't understand the way the game was set up and you all pointed out the difficulty of the songs. We will be more logical about the process this year.

If I knew, for sure I was running this tourney I would post the rules on-line myself after checking out the UGS site, and have copies on hand for competitors for the event. Unfortunately, I probably won't know until I get there that day. I will carry copies of the rules with me from their site anyway. Nothing is set in stone, I'm only speaking from past experience.

I hope this clears up everything. Ask more questions if you need.

Dana and everyone out there, UGS will NOT be a part of our upcoming event. You can use their rules if you like but they will not be contributing in any way! We ran a small 16 player GH3 tournament a few weeks ago and have the rules we used there if you want to look at those Dana! Just email Tracy to request them. She has the electronic copies.
