CGS '13 was my first year and it gave me a pretty bad impression. I expected it to be much more professional. Upon arrival around 9:55 am I got in line.. which didn't move for at least 20 minutes. We were then told to move to a different line (obvious cuts in line) then told to go back to our original line. Back at the old line we didn't move for another 45 minutes, keep in mind it's 18 degrees outside. Finally started to move and got in the door at around 11:15 (10 was the original starting time) I go to the Halo room. People were warming up, i'd say 15-20 people got to warm up from before 11:15 until the FFA started at 12:30 (11 being original) because they were there first or a friend of someone playing. The 4v4 headsets only worked on one station giving a clear advantage to one team, I even heard.

I'll attend next year, not sure when that is (shirts said Feb 1st and brochures said Feb 8th?) but if it's anything like '13 it'll be my last time.

Thanks.

I appreciate your candid comments. They will be taken under advisement. Could you please explain to me a bit more about the line switching. None of that was in my design for the event.

Were you in the pre-reg line when this happened or the cash line.

As I understand it all headsets were working when we started then half died. That is very annoying but it happens. The problem is we have SOOOO many xbox's that our sponsor actually gave us all the loaners they had and that was not really enough.

We didn't have spares. This will be something we work on next time.

Hurray for CGS taking in consideration of what could possibly be fixed. No sarcasm intended.

Pre-reg line. Up front was told to move by the cash line, then told to go back to the original pre-reg line.

Been coming to CGS since 06ish I believe also have experience in running lans and setting up bracket for local lans as well as working 2 years as event staff for MLG. just to give some info on where the criticism is coming from

The headsets going out in the halo room has happened two years in a row now. It really makes the sponsors look bad when that happens.

I help run the tournament in the Halo rooms as well as the streams (lended my premium xsplit account)

I will say that the tournament ran almost as smoothly as it could. I think halo with so many people that sign up for FFA needs 2 rooms as it did this year, but both rooms need to be set up exactly the same. With running 2 rooms for FFA the bracket will move much faster and you will have more time for the 4v4 and you may even get it finished earlier, if you kept the cap at 16 teams. I talked to Sam after the tourney and let her know how to set it up next year

When it comes to streaming, thats a cool idea but when you have that many streams using one connections upload you are giving a terrible production over the internet. I have about 3 months experience in streaming and have a growing following since starting PC streaming about a month ago. Not only does the stream have to do with the Upload only but also the settings that you run everything at. Most of the settings for the specs of the PCs you had were way to high. Also what we saw on the twitch page from the same room we were streaming from was what people were seeing at home, the stream uses the upload and the watching it uses the download. At some points in the day the uploads were as low at .5 megs when you need atleast 1.5 to run a low quality watchable stream. Also the bitrates that we were getting due to connection in halo room was around 75kbps when atleast 1200-1500 is needed, both video and sound werent being broadcast at same time due to this. I had many people contacting me that follow my channel saying it looked horrible and wasnt watchable.

Most of time constraints are due to players that arent used to a tournament scene and how things run. Alot of time wasted is waiting for someone that has disappeared. Also if there is a way next year when someone pre registers have the rules for the tournaments come as a pop up that they must agree with, of course not the settings but the technical stuff.

I am done competing in tournaments and only like to help work them, If you need help next year with Halo which is my strongsuit just let me know, also the streams, maybe if only a few rooms ran them it would work.

The Starcraft 2 tournament was very poorly organized I felt. Here were some issues I found with the whole thing:

1) First round was only a best of 1. The tournament only had around 20 players, everyone had a computer, and we would have only needed 5 rounds of games at most to complete the whole tournament. They could have easily accommodated best of 3's.

2) The bracket itself was a giant mystery. There was a bracket online that as far as I'm aware was never updated during the actual tournament, and if you look at it now it's actually completely wrong http://challonge.com/cgs2013_sc2
It's not even completely filled out, and the matches listed are totally different than what was actually played. How a round 2 is even filled out is beyond me. Someone had drawn a bracket on the whiteboard before I get there but for some reason it only ever had 2 names on it and was never updated either.

3) The mystery bracket was somehow reworked during the tournament where someone who had already been knocked out was matched up and won against someone who was still undefeated in the tournament, knocking them out.

4) A losers bracket was created mid-tournament I think after the organizers realized the tournament would end way sooner than expected and realized half the people there only ever got to play 1 game before being knocked out. My friends and I who participated opted out of this as we had already had enough of the poor organization.

5) The computers were really low spec with 4:3 aspect ratio monitors. Not really a huge deal since I know you guys aren't MLG and filled with money but it certainly didn't help anything in what turned out to be a mess of a tourney.

I still had a fun time hanging out with everyone and I enjoyed the CGS event as a whole. I offer this post as simply a way for organizers to better improve any SC2 tournaments in the future.

Just two things from me:

Firstly, I too hated how long the wait was in the pre-reg line. I think we were in line for roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes and maybe longer. Also, a friend who came with us didn't pre-reg and he beat us into the building. Maybe next year could you guys add more people registering people in based on like last names or something? I don't know how to help it go faster but I just wish it could have been faster.

Secondly, a big shoutout goes to the League of Legends tournament director/organizers. I thought they dealt with the issues of people standing in line and being late even though they weren't really late very well. I believe that my team was supposed to be one of the first games to play but we had guys still in the pre-reg line and so they allowed other games to happen before our match. Big thanks to the LoL crew, they did a great job running the LoL tournament!

My team Never Forgotten came in 1st for the 4v4 BO2 tourny, I would say all the headphones we used were working, the only ones that had problems were the Turtle Beaches. There was nothing to complain about people are just giving an excuse why they lost, I showed up at around 9:45 and basically walked in the line was so short. People who waited came around 10:45. Obviously the line is gonna take long, you cant help that at all. The only con that I didn't like about this tournament was the prizes. I feel like you guys could've done a lot better with them.

My team won first place and I am still complaining about the lack of working headsets.

We also showed up 10 minutes after 10:00 and were waiting in line over an hour to get in. The line can be helped by having more staff/volunteers checking people in. The only people checking in were older women who took forever. I saw tons of staff walking around outside doing not a whole lot of anything, waiting for their events to start. They could have easily helped out if asked.

Okay just to get this out there Busty, the line moved slowly because of disorganization. Not because people waited to show up. If I get there 15 minutes after you did and have to wait 1.5 hours in line, with the line not moving at all for over 20 minutes, there's a problem. The fact that the staff made everyone circle around the campus for absolutely no reason just to end up back in the same area is mind boggling. And not to mention while that line was circling my buds who came 5 minutes after I did got in because there was no one there. Please try to understand that if a lot of people are complaining about the line, there must be an issue.

Lol thank you, Link. I got there at 9:55 and waited 1 hr and 20 mins to get in the door. aRukus stated there were headset malfunctions. None in your room, which is good. I'm not making excuses. I'm trying to help the venue improve.

I got there quarter til 10 and went to the pre register doors and there was maybe 10 people in line.

Here is something that could work, at the PreReg line they had 2 different lists. I waited in line told them my name and was told to move over, so I had to get in a line of course it was only 5 people, but have the lists separated to make it easier but have multiple copies so it doesnt matter what line you are in.

When I told them my name they kinda just pointed and didnt really say anything.
