DBAP Gaming partnered with the Carolina Games Summit will be holding a Cosplay Contest on Saturday September 30th. The contest will be held within the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina.

Attendees are encouraged to display their craftsmanship with characters from their favorite game, anime, or movie. Whether you are one to go for pinpoint accuracy or choose take creative license. The cosplay contest will be sponsored by Red Storm Entertainment. Judging will be done by The FanDames Initiative. The winners of the cosplay contest will receive a cash prizes from a pool of $500 split into the following:

  • First Place: $250
  • Second Place: $150
  • Third Place: $100

    The FanDames Initiative is an a non-profit organization that empowers women in the geek and nerd fandoms. We actively support all women in our community by creating a safe and healthy environment for self-expression.

    Durham Bulls Athletic Park will become the first Minor League Baseball facility to host an Esports tournament, when the inaugural DBAP Gaming Challenge takes place from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 at the ballpark.

    Durham Bulls Athletic Park will become the first Minor League Baseball facility to host an Esports tournament, when the inaugural DBAP Gaming Challenge takes place from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 at the ballpark.

    The three-day event will utilize much of the park’s unique event space, including the PNC Triangle Club, party decks, dugout tops and the team’s Blue Monster videoboard, which measures 63 feet wide by 25 feet tall. Additionally, the park’s concessions will operate throughout the three days, as Friday’s session will run from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday’s session from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday’s session from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

    “We’re extremely excited to host the inaugural DBAP Gaming Challenge,” Bulls General Manager Mike Birling said. “Esports is an industry that continues to grow at a rapid pace, and we’re looking forward to beginning the DGC and making it an annual event in Durham at our stadium.”

    The event, presented in part by the Coastal Credit Union and being run in association with the Carolina Games Summit and Amateur Esports League, will feature a $5,000 pot across multiple tournaments. Over 15 games will be available for gameplay over the three-day span, including Super Smash Bros. Melee, Call of Duty, Halo 5, MLB The Show and Rocket League.

    The Carolina Games Summit will host an exciting array of video game tournaments at the upcoming 2017 GEXCon located at the Fredericksburg Expo Center in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The event will be held on July 8th and 9th with festivities going from 11:00 am to 12:00 am and 10:00 am to 8:00 pm respectively.

    GEXCon 2017 will feature a CS:GO 5K Open LAN tournament where the top four teams will compete live, on stage on Sunday. In addition, there will be tournaments for League of Legends, Overwatch, and Hearthstone. For those not interested in competing, attendees can enjoy the Free Play area or BYOC LAN.

    The Carolina Games Summit will be bringing both Halo and CoD 4v4 as well as Rocket League 2v2 and 3v3. If sports games are more your taste, there will also be Madden and FIFA 2K17. Last but not least there will be Smash Bros 4 and Melee.

    The Carolina Games Summit will be helping Blue Ox Games with their video game charity event in Greenville on April 30th, 2017. The event will be held at Blue Oxs retail store located in Greenville, North Carolina and will benefit Extra Life, a gamer-related charity. Extra Life uses the pastime of gaming to benefit hospitals in the Childrens Miracle Network. Much like Relay for Life, this group raises money and then does an activity. The games will include Street Fighter V, Smash Bros 4 & Melee, and Rocket League 2v2 tournaments.     The Amateur Esports League(AEL) announces their inaugural tournament Saturday, April 1st featuring Call of Duty: IW 4v4 at the Carolina Games Summit venue in Downtown Goldsboro, NC. The goal of AEL is to provide a true esports experience in an amateur setting, as a way to help aspiring video game athletes. After the initial event is complete AEL will host monthly Call of Duty tournaments with plans to expand to other games.

    Ross Ledford, the event coordinator of AEL, hopes that the league will “allow more people to make their esports dreams a reality”. Because of the grassroots structure of the AEL, their events allow not only experience in tournaments but also production and event experience for volunteers. By fostering a community of passionate gamers, the Amateur Esports League hopes to help legitimize esports in the United States while also providing a fun and friendly environment for all attendees.

    AEL’s first tournament will be April 1st, and will be a Call of Duty Infinite Warefare 4v4 tournament. The tournament will be their first payed tournament to date, with players fighting for their share over an over $1000 prize pool. Aside from being their first tournament, April first marks the start of AEL’s monthly tournament series. Starting out with Call of Duty and Halo, the Amateur Esports League will soon host monthly tournaments for all major esports games. With AEL’s leaderboards, players(and even possible sponsors) will be able to track the performance of themselves and their teams. By aiding players every step of the way, the Amateur Esports League will soon become a powerhouse in the world of esports.

    Jalil Sadool will represent Steamroller Studios as the day two keynote speaker at the 2017 Carolina Games Summit. The Steamroller Studios keynote will take place on February 5 at 1:00 pm in the Paramount Theater.

    The keynote presentation, “A Study of Creature Animation in Films and Games” will explore several pieces of creature animation from films and games and share the variety of workflows behind creating each animation. Sadool will explain that even though there are similarities between VFX, feature animated films, and games, there are limitations and rules that each category carries. Attendees will leave the session with new knowledge of the varied workflows required to achieve a similar result in animation.

    Dr. Benjamin Sintay, the chief physicist for Cone Healths radiation oncology departments, will be they day one keynote during the 2017 Carolina Games Summit with his presentation titled: “Using Games to Cure Cancer.” The presentation will take place February 4th at 12:30pm in the Paramount Theater downtown Goldsboro, NC.

    About Dr. Benjamin Sintay

    Dr. Benjamin “BJ” Sintay is the chief physicist for Cone Healths radiation oncology departments overseeing the treatment of cancer with radiation. Dr. Sintay received Bachelor of Science degrees in electrical and computer engineering from North Carolina State University in 2004. He received a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Wake Forest University in 2008. Dr. Sintay is board certified in Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology, and has been with Cone Health since 2009. Dr. Sintay is currently president-elect of the Southeast Chapter of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. His interests include image-guided radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, image processing, computer programming and automation.

    The Carolina Games Summit announces that tickets are now on sale for their upcoming downtown Goldsboro event on February 4th and 5th 2017.     Tickets purchased online give attendees the ability to reserve their spot in video game tournaments such as Smash Brothers 4, Madden 2017, and Halo 5. Additional benefits include preview access to upcoming event information, private attendee only message forums, and shorter lines at the event.

    Red Storm Entertainment, a Ubisoft® studio, will be returning this year to give attendees access to their latest Virtual Reality projects plus access to fresh-eyes testing and educational seminars. Spark Plug Games will be discussing their ongoing serious games and entertainment products in development. Dark Unicorn Games will be demonstrating their new products in the collectible trading card game arena. Colleges and schools such as North Carolina State University and Fayetteville Technical Community College will be exhibiting and speaking.

    Serious Games will also be a major part of the event with BioMojo LLC demonstrating an approach to virtual healthcare education and training. The UNC Center for Innovation in Pharmacy Simulation (CIPS) will be discussing it’s nXhuman project.

    Tournaments, speakers, and exhibits will span multiple buildings including the Wayne National Building, the Terrace Room at Waynesborough House, ACME Theater, and the Paramount Theater.

This is an opportunity to share ideas and practices with some of the brightest talents in game design and some of the biggest fans of video games.     The unifying aspect of the Carolina Games Summit is its dedication to informing the public that simulation and game design is a viable career choice for today’s youth.     The Carolina Games Summit announces that they will be hosting five Super Smash Brothers tournaments across three different consoles at the upcoming Playthrough Gaming Convention at the Raleigh Convention Center on February 13th and 14th 2016.

    Tournaments will be held both days beginning with individual Super Smash Brothers Melee tournaments on February 13th at Noon and February 14th at 11:00am. The first day Melee tournament will be single elimination with best 2 out of 3 rounds determining the winner. The second day Melee tournament will be double elimination with best 2 out of 3 rounds determining the winner. The 1st place winner from each day will face off in a final showdown on stage to determine our ultimate Melee tournament champion from both days of competition. Streaming will be attempted via the Carolina Games Summit twitch channel at CGSTwitch

    Super Smash Brothers Brawl will be held February 13th at 5pm as a double elimination best 2 out of 3 rounds tournament. Super Smash Brothers 4 will be held on February 14th at Noon as a double elimination best 2 out of 3 rounds tournament. Custom prize plaques have been created for 1st - 3rd places on all tournaments with a special plaque for the Melee two day champion.

    All Melee tournament play will be conducted on CRT monitors with original Nintendo Gamecube controllers provided. Brawl and Smash 4 tournament play will be conducted on Benq RL2460 competitive gaming monitors set to Fighting Mode co-designed by fighting gaming legend Justin “JWong” Wong. They will use Nintendo Wii and Wii U consoles respectively. Bringing your own controllers are permitted as long as they do not break tournament rules as defined on Tournament Rules Registration for tournaments are now open at Carolina Games Summit under the Tournaments section.

    Freeplay will also be held on all consoles when they are not in tournament use. Carolina Games Summit has partnered with Hyperkin to showcase Retron 5 consoles for open play at our booth.

The tournament will be held at the second annual Escapist Expo on October 5th, 2013 in Durham, North Carolina.
