Card Games

General Info

If you are interested in participating in any of the following card game tournaments please purchase a ticket and register on our tournament page by clicking here or the large button above. You will be able to register at the event, but pre-registration reserves your spot in each tournament.

All ages are welcome to participate.

All tournaments are sanctioned, meaning all results will be reported to the organized play divisions of each trading card game company. Head2Head Games of Jacksonville, NC is sponsoring the event and will be in charge of each tournament and reporting the results after the event is complete.
Magic The Gathering Draft

The draft tournament will include three FREE WorldWake packs. This event is limited to 32 people and will consist of four - 8 person drafts. Again your entrance fee for the Carolina Games Summit covers all three WorldWake packs! The first 32 players who sign up will be eligible for the free packs and will not need to bring any cards to the tournament to participate.

A draft consists of 3 packs where each person opens a pack and chooses a card. They then pass that pack to the next person and choose a card, this goes on until all of the cards are gone. The person then builds a 40 card deck (this is a minimum) out of the cards they have drafted and then players with that deck.

The official rules from the Magic Website are:

“All players must open and draft the same type of booster at the same time. Players open their first booster pack and count the cards face down, removing token cards, rules cards, and any other none-game cards. Players who receive an erroneous number of cards at any time must immediately notify a judge. After picking up the booster, players should remove and keep any non-foil basic land cards and/or any other cards that are not from the expansion of the opened booster. Foil basic land cards should be left in the booster and drafted with the other cards. Players choose one card from their current booster pack and then pass the remaining cards face down to the player on their left until all cards are drafted.

Once a player has removed a card from the pack and put it on his or her single face-down drafted pile, it is considered selected and may not be returned to the pack. Players may not reveal their card selections, the contents of their current packs, or their drafted cards to other participants in the draft and must make a reasonable effort to keep that information from the sight of other players. Players are not permitted to reveal information of any kind to other participants in the draft regarding their own picks or what they want others to pick.”

Each draft will be single elimination with the top 4 players receiving additional packs as prizes.

Magic The Gathering Constructed

This will be the standard format (this consists of the following sets M2010, Shards of Alara, Conflux, Alara Reborn, Zendikar and Worldwake).  Each player must have a 60 card minimum deck and may also have a sideboard of 15 cards exactly, with no more than 4 copies of any card (except basic lands).

You will play a match that is a best of 3 format and can play all the rounds until the playoff cut of a Top 8 (or 4 if fewer than 16 players).

Yu Gi Oh! Constructed

Advanced Format: Each player will need to build a deck of at least 40 cards and have no more than 3 of any card.

We require you adhere to the Forbidden List, the Limited List, and the Semi-Limited List.

You can also see these lists here: http://www.yugioh-card.com/en/limited/

Each player will play a match that consists of a best of 3 format and will play 5 rounds with a cut to top 8 (4 rounds and top 4 if less than 16 players).

The Forbidden List was made to prevent cards being used that are either too powerful, have no drawbacks, or end games too quickly.

World of Warcraft The Card Game

The world of Warcraft game will be 5 rounds and cut to a top 8 (4 rounds and a top 4 if less than 16).  Each player will play a best off three match and is allowed a 10 card side deck to use for games 2 and 3.

The following are the basic rules for deck construction.  A minimum of a 60 card deck and no more than 4 of any card.

Building a deck
1 The minimum deck size for Constructed play is 60 cards.  There is no maximum deck size. Decks can’t include heroes unless they are Master heroes
2 A card that can be included in a player’s deck is called a "legal" card for that player.
2a Some cards have one or more trait icons. A player can include a card with one or more
class icons in his deck only if it shares a class icon with his hero. A player can include a card
with one or more faction icons in his deck only if it shares a faction icon with his hero. Cards
with no trait icons can be included in any deck.
2b Some cards have bold text that reads, “[Trait] Hero Required.” A player can include such a
card in his deck only if his hero has that [Trait].
2c Some cards have bold text that reads, “[Description] Reputation.” These words are neither
keywords nor powers. A deck can include cards of one Reputation only if it contains no cards
of any other Reputation.
2d Some heroes have bold text that reads, “Deckbuilding” followed by inclusions and
exclusions. These words are neither keywords nor powers. Such inclusions are the only cards
that can be legally included with such a hero, and may be exceptions to applicable parts of
2. Exclusions take precedence over inclusions.
2e A deck can include a Master hero (301.4) with a certain name only if it contains no Master
heroes with any other name.
3 Some tournaments allow players to have an optional side deck. Players must start each match
with their main deck, but may swap cards between side deck and main deck between games in a
match. For Constructed play, a side deck is exactly 10 cards and can include any cards that could
be included in the main deck. For Limited play, a side deck is all cards in a player’s card pool that
are not being played in the main deck.
4 A deck for Constructed play (including the side deck, if applicable) can include a total of only
four copies of any card with the same name. Decks for Limited play can include any number of
cards with the same name. Cards with the unlimited tag are an exception to this rule. Decks can
include any number of cards with the unlimited tag. This rule applies only while building a deck.
