2017 Bands Schedule
Triforce Quartet

Triforce Quartet

Location: Paramount Theater
Day 1: Feb 4th 6:00-7:00pm

The Triforce Quartet is a traditional string quartet that plays video game music.

The Triforce Quartet began innocently as a short Zelda medley for an encore of a recital in early 2007, but the video of using traditional string quartet instruments to play music of classic games gained viral popularity later that summer. Thanks to this, cellist Chad Schwartz was able to combine his love for video games, along with years of classical training, to arrange a variety of video game themes that even non-gamers can enjoy. The four members of the Triforce Quartet take audience members on an unforgettable musical journey.

The Triforce Quartet has played in front of sold out shows at PAX Prime in Seattle, PAX East in Boston; MAGFest in Washington DC, the iDIG Music Festival in Ireland and with Video Games Live!

2013 Bands Schedule
D&D Sluggers

D&D Sluggers

Location: Auditorium
Time: 1:00-1:50pm

A little bit Nintendo, a little bit dance pop, and more than a handful of fun. These are the ingredients which make up D&D Sluggers. From their port town of Wilmington, NC, the dynamic duo of Soultron and Hyphen utilize a Game Boy DMG and Nintendo DS in harmony with guitar, synths and vocals to create seriously catchy music about love, life, perseverance and Pokemon. Formed in March 2010 in the wake of their previous projects Soultron and Little Miss Sabotage and the Cornflowers, D&D Sluggers have been making a name for themselves up and down the east coast. Having been tapped to play such massive festivals as Hopscotch 2011, Nerd-a-palooza 2012, The Escapist Expo 2012, MAGFest 11, and SXSW 2012, and supporting the likes of Afroman, Random Encounter, Math the Band, The Protomen and Peelander-Z, their style has helped to bridge the gap between chiptune and rock. True lovers of the genre, they have even published a guide to getting started making chiptunes.

On August 20th, 2011, D&D Sluggers released their much-anticipated full-length album, This Album is a Party. This album sees the duo realizing their full potential. Produced by Worth Weaver at Red Room Recording, the band have fully translated their raucous and infectious live show to a handy compact disc format. Already, the album has garnered praise. Brian Tucker from Star News says, “If music could be highly infectious for the ear then D&D Sluggers have a nasty virus in This Album is a Party.” A successful alternate reality game built a large buzz crossing through the borders of states, countries and oceans. D&D Sluggers are currently tweaking material for their sophomore release, and will be coming to your town soon.

Location: Auditorium
Time: 3:00-3:50pm

Mario Farrow grew up in Auburn, Alabama - a city polluted with drugs, gangs, and violence. Surrounded by negativity and transitioning into various foster homes, he could have easily chosen the wrong path. Rather than succumbing to his environment and dire circumstances, Mario chose to rise above them and use music to soothe his soul and escape. He would freestyle and rhyme to himself, eventually penning his lyrics under the name, "Young Millionaire," in 2004.

In 2008 Mario relocated and acclimated to Chapel Hill, NC. During this transitional period, he delved deeply into his craft, linking up with local emcees and producers like ACee, Shoton, and KdotMills. Taking his lyricism to the next level, Mario decided to change his handle to "SkyBlew." His music is proving to be unique with an uplifting, powerful, and positive message in Hip-Hop. In addition to his solo career, SkyBlew is also half of the dynamic duo known as Blaze the Sky, with fellow emcee, Azon Blaze.

SkyBlew is also a NerdCore artist. He creatively incorporates video game and anime references/themes into his repertoire in a very unique way. His distinctive sound is attributed to the diversity of his idols. His musical influences include: Common Market, Blu & Exile, Scapegoat Wax, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Blue Scholars, Little Brother, Amy Winehouse and a host of other artists from all genres. His studies have taken him full circle in the history of Hip-Hop.

Rare Candy Band

Location: Auditorium
Time: 2:00-3:30pm

Rare Candy, based in Baltimore, MD, have played MAGFest, Otakon and 64-bit Gen, as well as a handful of other venues and conventions. They stray away from the more popular guitar, bass, and drums formula that most bands use and instead institute a blend of insane dueling keyboards and fast paced rhythms. With crowd favorites like “Dark World” from Zelda 3, and “Undersea Palace” from Chrono Trigger, you’ll be taken back to your old memories of sitting in front of your Super NES with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich after watching hours of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles . Band members include Chris Baines and John DeCampos (of Entertainment System fame), Dom Cerquetti (founder of JamSpace) and some guy named Matt Baros.

Entertainment System Band

Location: Auditorium
Time: 6:00 - 7:30pm

Since it’s formation in 2004, 37 people have been members of Entertainment System. Some people, and 99% of witch doctors, say that the band is cursed; however, founding guitarists, John DeCampos and Chris Baines (and sycophantic bass player Tyler Merchant) find the idea ridiculous, as they believe that in order to be cursed you must have a soul. ES turns your favorite old school game music into heavy hitting rock/metal arrangements. This will be the band’s second year performing at CGS and they look forward to introducing its two newest members, Jon Smeltzer and Brandon Wildman. Keep an ear open for their fifth studio album, "Rock n’ Roll Cereal," coming out this summer.
