The big problem with pro gaming in America and maybe even in other parts of the world is the lack of events. People are lucky if there are 1 a month for the pros while regular gamers are lucky to get 1 or 2 events per year in their area.
I see lots of small scale tournaments here and there, they unfortunately don't pull the numbers we have but I am hoping they will grow.
What types of games do you play it might help us direct you to the right people. -= All your tournaments are belong to us =-

Most competitive gaming is PC based, so you console huggers are kind of SOL. But, if you are a console gamer I know GameFrog has an annual halo tournament.
Also, if you want more tournaments, talk to your city or local boys club or some other place like that and come up with a game plan and you could organize one yourself.
The City of Goldsboro's Park & Rec (Place where Wayne Community College is) is toying with the idea of having a couple gaming tournaments. So talking to your city might turn out like Goldsboro and consider the idea. Remember, the Carolina Games Summit was originally just a few guys talking about starting a small little game expo. A couple days before the event Micheal said they were hoping for a couple hundred. Not only did 700 show up, but last year we had 1,400 people.
If you have some questions I am willing to answer them to the best of my knowledge. Just don't plan your event during CGS, otherwise we might get Stalin to come back from the dead and get him to lead the red army into your event ;-).
Basically, if you want more tournaments, think about starting one yourself :-). East Coast Gaurdians

Well you want a large tournament... How's 3,000 people sound?
www.thecpl.com/winter
Dec. 18-22 THATS 5 DAYS of awsome lannage! For your CS...girls... $50,000 for 1.6 and $50,000 for CS:S
I'm going. I've got my tickets to the event, airplane tickets, and hotel reservation :P Got a special deal on that. 2 rooms with 2 beds. So if anyone wants to come and split the hotel cost I'd be down. It's $75 a night. RSVP for 17th-23rd to allow for travel. Total per person would be about $135 thats including tax. I believe the event is INSIDE the hotel we'll be staying at. So sleep isn't so far away ;)

-We're working on it. All we need is a damned location, and we may have one in a month or so. Once we get a good place we will be holding MONTHLY events.
If anyone has a suggestion let us know. Screw hotels. |

Logan,
You need to get in touch again man, I think Hotels could be very helpful if you are holding monthly tournaments. We are likely going to have an "official hotel of Carolina Games Summit" this year. If they are willing to sponsor us I don't see why they wouldn't be willing to host lead up events aka laglesslan.com events at a good price.
We just need to work to bring 50-60 people out to your LANs then you would have enough money to work with!

There's Major League Gaming... but that's nationwide. And as far as I know it's only Halo 2, but maybe not. But the team of 4 to win Halo 2 wins 100,000$. 25,000$ for all I guess. Badder than old King Kong, meaner than a junkyard dog.

Our biggest problem at lagless atm is actually getting the turnout we need to cover costs. Last time we had 20 people sign up (14 payed) and only 5 showed. A location ISN'T a big problem IF we can be guaranteed enough to cover the costs. We don't do it to make money, but we are too poor to lose it.
I'll post here about it, if anyone is interested in a LAN soon after or right before CGS, post here. If the response is big enough I will track down a location and set a date. We only need about 10 people to cover costs, but around here that's harder than you'd think.
It's funny that tons of people ask about it, but when we host an event, no one seems interested. |

And I just had a wonderfully devious location idea. |

Well half the people forget and half of the people can't find the time and half the people (yes three halves), aren't ones who really would bother anyways. Most of the people who are interested dont' know where to ask. Badder than old King Kong, meaner than a junkyard dog.

It depends on what games you are looking for, but if you're into fighting games, there's places like:
www.dustloop.com for guilty gear
www.shoryuken.com for capcom / snk / various other fighting games
and smash boards (gonna have to google that) for smash brothers.
Generally there's a tournament every month or two with a decent turn out, sometimes more. I've already been to two this month and there's another 2 in feb, so, this year is looking to be good for fighters. GG tournament Winner 2008
Brawl Tournament Winner 2009
SF4 Tournament Winner 2010
SSF4 and Blazblue Winner 2011
MVC3 Tournament Winner 2012
UMVC3 Tournament Winner 2013
