Well, next NC fighting game tournament is in Durham on the 24th: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=172504
We have bigger ones in Greensboro at a card shop, usually around 30-50 people attend. We bring our own equipment and usually charge $5-10 venue fee, and an entry fee per tournament for the pot. Pot is split 70/20/10 usually.
We generally play Street Fighter III: 3S, CvS2, Guilty Gear, SC4, and usually something extra like Tatsunoko vs Capcom or Alpha 3, Darkstalkers etc.
The largest major tournament for fighting games that's nearby is in Atlanta in March. Also, our scene holds tournaments at Animazement, which is the anime con on memorial day weekend in Raleigh (was previously held in Durham at the Sheraton).
