While I know you have mentioned you have plans for 09. I would really like to re-emphasis how much PC was lacking this year. (Yes I do blame the sponsors for backing out because of them not getting their budget done on time)
First what you did have for PC.
LaglessLan hosted your ONLY two PC tournaments. That is 2 out of 18. 1/9 ratio. L3 did a fantastic job again but they are stuck using outdated equipment and outdated games. I would really recommend looking into helping L3 get some temp or even permanent hardware that can handle gaming.
I know you mentioned a 2nd building dedicated to PC gaming. That is good stuff and I'd love to see it. But please make sure you get more than two tournaments. We just had 7 360 and 7 playstation tournaments. Hopefully we can get 6 or 7 PC tournaments as well.
I'd really love to see CoD4, UT3, Q3, CS, CS:S all make an appearance. Or even some other PC games.
A PC free play section and a BYOC would be nice as well. |

agreed ^^^ 100% of course I am thinking a 128 player StarCraft BW tournament would be sweet too :-)
PC Games will be my focus for the upcoming year. Anyone seeking to help with this endeavor PLEASE let us know.
We will likely need 30-50 more volunteers to pull this off!!! That puts us at about 150 volunteers total! -= All your tournaments are belong to us =-

If there is gonna be a 128-player sc tourney, then I would be torn between volunteering as an admin or playing in it :( |

That is always our problem, everyone wants to enjoy the event. Nobody wants to run the darn thing.
Luckily we have done an amazing job finding talent where nobody would have guessed it would be located.
We had hoped to bring in 3rd party Tournament Directors and Organizers to make things a little easier on ourselves. This year this plan totally backfired and caused an AMAZING amount of work to be added onto the two conference directors plates.
I will keep looking I know there are some amazing companies out there holding some amazing events.
We will find them!! -= All your tournaments are belong to us =-

Yea! Who ever thought to ask a LAN hosting group to run a LAN! That's insane! ;)
Problem with doing a BOYC room... Some people will have problems, then the director has to help them solve their problem so they can participate. If we get a nice room with computers that can handle some newer games, that would be great. We get the testing done before hand and then we just have to worry about the small little problems that crop up on game day.
On a side note... Sign up for our LAN! www.laglesslan.com (Feb 29th-Mar 1)
Hosted in Goldsboro, we have room for a MAX of 20 players (signups are going on now. prepay will be up next week - prepay saves your spot, if you don't you might not get in... 1st come 1st sit)- BYOC - I don't fix problems at these, so make sure your stuff works !

^^Agreed about the problems issue. Plus you have no idea what you are letting on your network when you BYOC. In a college environment this IS an issue. Luckily we have good admins who put everyone at the event into their own little firewalled private network.
That usually does the trick. But I always feel better when I know the equipment will be set up ahead of time and tested.
To do BYOC we have to figure out a lot of stuff, like where do you unload your PC? Is there a storage room while you check in? Do we need carts ??
Can we steal those carts from a walmart parking lot...
You know little details :-)
I'm still pumped to try BYOC next year we just have a lot of planning to do to support it. If only that huge multi purpose building would get designed and built!! -= All your tournaments are belong to us =-
