Hi,
What new or returning games would everybody like to see featured at CGS 09?
I'd like Soul Calibur 4 and Quake 3 Arena/Quake Live if it's out of beta by then. |

I applied for that beta and didn't get picked! Darn my luck. It will be interesting this year because so many staples of past events now have sequels coming out or already out.
We will do our best to make sure a good combination of the old and new make it to the show floor.
Of course a lot of it will depend on our partners. I hope we will have these things figured out before too long.

Every tournament from the 2D fighting games room: Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core, Hyper Street Fighter II, Street Fighter 3, Capcom vs. SNK 2, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2. And I'm sure this is a given anyway, but definitely Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

Rock Band for sure, 1 or 2 i havent played 2 yet though but from what iv seen 1 was better :-p
Im not sure if it would be possible but a CoD4 tourny on computer would be awesome, for us PC gamers. Cause i love CoD but i couldnt compete in a console cause iv only played it on PC.
Cant wait for smash brothers, although im not looking foward to it being brawl. Just personal prefrence. I think melee is more of a competitive game.
Some sort of Strat game for pc would be cool too, but once again im not sure if thats an option or not.

I'd love to see Quake Live if it's done as well. Other than that either Quake 4 or Quake 3, even though Quake 3 is more plausible as it will run on older machines. Left 4 Dead may be fun although its not quite clear to me yet how much competitive attitude it has, but it does have a versus mode. Maybe something with 1on1, which I don't think we've had yet in the PC FPS area. |

Our facebook event page has a listing with some of the confirmed games on it :-) We will also be doing a press release next week but it will not be about the specific tournaments. Hopefully the tournament press release will go out two weeks later.

I am really excited about this years tounaments and I am looking forward to Halo again... but I possibly might only spectate this year due to the fact I haven't played it in 2 months, but as for a CoD4/5 Tourney I would enjoy taking part in that so if anyone (if those games are even confirmed) needs 2-3 more teammates if it is a team game then please let me know as me and some of my friends are deffinitly heading out to the event!!! |

We are sure COD will be at the event the problem is figuring out if more people would play 4 or 5?
Also I haven't talked to the tournament director about it but I am 90% sure it will be team for either version!

I am more interested in CoD4 seeing as how it has been out longer... I may play Halo 3 though... but last year there was some issues with teams entering multiple times under different names... but overall it was good... CoD5's maps are also in some cases a bit larger and harder to manuevar (sp?) either way I will be attending and will own some people no matter what I play :)...
Btw... giving away I quadcore or i7 processor with mobo combination would be the sexiest prize ever |

I'd really like to see Warcraft 3 added. Starcraft is great but it's very dated. I'd like to keep Starcraft in it as well because its still fun but with Starcraft being the only RTS, it might spice things up to add Warcraft 3.

I would really like to see the Tournaments ran with proper Tournament rules. I understand single elimination for time but messing with ANY settings for damage, time, etc.. should be left alone. I speak of MvC2. That is not a game to be messed with in terms of damage and time. This tournament was very poorly ran last year and only needed single elimination to help with time.

Yah Marvel rules last year did suck. Leave everything settings wise default. Single elim would work too. Make everything but Semi Finals 2/3 and semi finals and beyond 3/5. Losers bracket takes too long. |

Call of Duty 4 is better because it is totally different from the rest adn it wasnt at the last tournament it also plays better with any number of people depending on the maps
only thing would it be FFA or Team

Yea CoD4 will be good... I would say a CS:S tourny but I just don't think that there are that many teams around that play that seeing as how most pc teams are from people spread around that come in contact over the net |

I'd definitally do CoD4 for PC. I competed heavily over the last year until recently. But I could get back into it, if I knew CoD4 was going to be a team PC game. :) |

sixtymhz would like to say sorry for the lack of brackets and for editing the game modes... but to fit so many games in so little time u got to make some cuts... and as for brackets... hard to do when u only have enough staff to make sure the hardware is working... im sure u saw we had a few systems and controllers give out on us.... and as for this year... MvsC2 will have 3 min per round limit... im not that best at MvsC2 but i can drop anyone in under 2 min... so 3 per round is plenty of time.... now as for damage.... it will be left at default

If you did not sign up for all of the games you are not allowed in the room except when we start your game. Me and other staff have the authority to remove anyone we see fit if you get out of hand. Respect yourself and others, wait your turn and enjoy the show.

Have you ever heard this something called "BURST"...you know...hovers at the top of the screen below each players lifebars. It blows people off you. Now if you don't have a burst when you get hit in an air combo...then that's your fault for getting hit. This rule alone is going to stop any serious gamer from playing in this tournament...You act like the game has infinite or something...Unlike Marvel which has tons...and if you screw with marvel...NOBODY will take this tournament seriously. |

In reply to the Guilty Gear Air Combo limit and some of the stuff that there seems to be some confusion about:
Guilty Gear never had an air counter system. All there is is burst. The way burst works is over time the gauge fills and you can use it at any time while you are being hit to break out of the combo. This works in the air and on the ground. Your burst gauge is turned off when someone does a super, but then it comes right back on after the super.
There are no infinites in guilty gear. I'm not sure if the guy who made the rule knows this, but you can "tech" out of an air combo by holding a direction and pressing any button during a combo. If there is too big of a gap between hits, you'll pop out. And, the longer the combo is, the easier it is to tech out, so infinites just don't happen. If you feel like you are being infinited because you tech out of an air combo only to be hit by a grounded move, this is because moves that are performed on the ground are unblockable if you are in the air. The only way to block this is to "faultless defense" which you can do by holding block and 2 buttons. You'll see a green bubble around your character, and it'll let you block ground to air moves.
I know most players are not knowledgeable in this and may not know about these mechanics. But banning them simply because you feel there's an imbalance between the good players and the bad ones isn't fair. Good players worked to get where they are and deserve to win. Are we going to ban Shaq from basketball because he's too tall / too good? He worked to get there and he earned it, so let him have his wins.
If this is a jab at things not being fun, this is a tournament. Tournaments are meant for competitive play. If you want to just enjoy yourself, there's always casual matches, but people will always get frustrated in a serious environment.
Please rethink this uneducated decision after reading my explanations.
