I have kind of a concern here. The way things are set up, entries for the 2D games will probably be very low. I imagine most people are going to play CoD or Gears or one of the music games, and they might want to play a little Street Fighter or Guilty Gear on the side for fun...but the way things are, just the 2D-only people will probably be entering these games, and the amount of people wanting to play just 2D would be quite low compared to the amount of people interested in Halo/Madden etc.

I think it's a good opportunity for the communities to overlap, so maybe a limit on 2D games if you enter a 3D game instead of one 3D and no 2D vs any 2D?

I'm just afraid that if I go, as a 2D player, the only people entering will be my friends since everyone else will be all over the shinier games. The 2D stuff is a bit of a side event, and I think wouldn't hurt to be available on the side. I know this might be a bit crazy, seeing as things are held in different rooms, but if you have good tournament organizers and people act responsibly, it's certainly doable. If a player doesn't show up within a certain time period, they're skipped or disqualified, depending.

Thanks. Let me know what you think. And I'd like to play SC4 lol.

Don't worry we have a large thread going on at Shoryuken.com which means lots interest in these tournaments.

I really wish everyone could play in every tournament they want but it just doesn't work well in reality.

If you want to play some relaxed open ended 2D Fighter Gaming go downstairs and enjoy the freeplay arcades. They will be numerous and very free!

Please note I really appreciate you registering early and supporting our 2D fighters. It is sad that we can not allow you to participate in one 2D fighter and one 3D fighter but we are working hard to make every attendees experience an enjoyable one. If we allow users to sign up for whatever they want we will have some who sign up for 3 or 4 tournaments in 3 or 4 different rooms and will get mad when they get dropped from a tournament. I know it is there fault but that part will likely get left out when they are cussing us out on our own forums post-event!

:-)

Okay then, sounds reasonable, and thanks for the reply.

Yes, there's been some interest at SRK, but a problem with that also is that this same crowd is largely choosing to go a different tournament on the same day in Virginia. Up there is more guaranteed top level competition and more games etc, and I've tried to get people to go to Goldsboro instead but their past experiences hold them back (and I could understand why; two years ago when I went and this was G2E, registration and tourneys were pretty bad).

What's more, I was hit by a car in November and was told by my doctor today that I shouldn't try to get around on my own until my next appointment on Feb 4, so even me attending might be hard lol. At any rate, I hope things go well regardless, and it's just always a bummer when tournaments end up being on the same day and nearby.

It really sucks because that same crap happened last year. I know we tailor to a different crowd but I was really hoping we would have a good clean weekend without a lot of other events. There are a lot of events going on 2.7.08 but luckily most are far away. The SRK event is really close.

However if they actually take a look at the event as a whole they will see that ours is the one to choose. We will be doing some announcements in the next few days that will likely bring a few over to our side ;)

Can we get clarification on CVS2 and SFIIITS rules please?

"Can we get clarification on CVS2 and SFIIITS rules please?"

Rule 1: I win.

Rule 2: You lose.

Rule 3: You may at least attempt to make it entertaining as long as rules 1 and 2 aren't broken in the process.

Seriously though, I'm guessing the defaults settings will be in play. I still have one question about Capcom vs. SNK 2 though. What kind of matches? 3 on 3?

We discussed the 3S/CvS rules in the 3S thread above.

Ratio is standard for CvS tournaments. So, you can do 2-1-1, 2-2, 3-1 or 4.
