Well, this year wasn't as good as last years. I had fun in the Starcraft tourney, but once the Halo 3 4v4 started, it was chaos. My team made it past the first round 50 to 20, but without knowing that the game would be CTF in the second round, we of course weren't prepared. So I think you should post the gametypes on the tourney page next year.
Also, the director for the Halo 3 4v4 was horrible. He thought that verbally abusing everyone was the only way to get stuff done. I can remember one thing he said to a person down the hall that wasn't even talking to him. Someone down the hall was yelling for someone because they couldn't get through. Well, the tourney director decides he will take it upon himself to chase that person, who was at least 50ft away, and yell "who the f*ck said that?" and another time, a team wasn't there, which I can understand being frustrated by that, but he goes "1, 2, your f*ckin out " and then yells some other things. At times, I thought he would start a fist fight. I have no problem with cussing, but, yelling at people who weren't even talking to you is a little overboard.
Also, the crowding was horrible. There is a 3rd floor that can be used. But, I could be wrong about whether they are usable.
I was mad about is the amount of time that is wasted when waiting for the teams to arrive. For the bigger team tourneys, I think you should use the intercom to call the teams, that way they got a warning and if they don't come in 5 minutes, the are out.
Either way, I am having a hard time deciding whether I want to go next year or not. If you have too, use a totally different building for it. I don't care, but just make it so it is more customer friendly.

The crowding was ~INSANE~ but at the same time, can't always help that.
I believe the third floor is the library, so I can kind of understand as to why they wouldn't use it. |

OK, then I understand why it wasn't used. Oh well, I guess that can't be fixed.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this. For now on, there should not be any people but the players in the rooms. One team had a coach to tell them what to do, which is very distracting when you are trying to concentrate. And if you need a "coach" to tell you what to do, it's obvious they sucked at thinking up a strategy. That "coach" wouldn't even allow them to have a casual conversation with us. Having spectators is normal for any competitive event. As far as coaches go, that is the norm for any MLG event. The ability to maintain under pressure is part of what it takes to be a good competitive gamer. Coaches can help with that. I agree with the your opinion of the Halo tournament organizer. I was also there for his "1, 2..." comment.
I believe I watched your 50-20 victory. I disagree with your assessment as to why you weren't ready for the CTF game. I am far from any sort of professional Halo player, but there is no reason why someone who is going to play in a tournament that is using MLG rules to not be ready for any sort of MLG game. This leads to an entire different topic, however.
I like your idea about the intercom system. I think that having displays around the building with live feeds of tournament gameplay would have been great as well.

that is super crappy that whoever was running that tourney would curse whatsoever
it just shows that persons immaturity and the inability to act in any form of a professional environment
regarding your ideas
some of the brains on the development team are debating and have beta tested using SMS texting to notify you or your team when you or your team is on deck
because i completely agree those hallways are stinky and hard to navigate
there is also the potential to move the tournaments into a newer facility that is adjacent to the atrium to break that up
But those ideas are in the work because maintaining two buildings and managing an outside area takes twice as much staff to support
twice as much hardware (if free play is expanded)
which only quadruples the headache
also the tournament director will be noted im sure |

The coach thing was a bit .... too much for a small event like this.
You just dont get it! There is no rule that you have to use every room in a building. You get two buildings. Use half the rooms in each instead of all the rooms in one. |

I had a similar problem with the guy running the RB2 tourney, and I also probably won't be returning because of it. He wasn't particularly profane, but instead, felt that because he was in charge he could do whatever he wanted. Which included changing the rules in the middle of the tournament to whatever he wanted them to be. |

I can understand it if they changed it at the beginning to adjust things for the amount of people or time, but why did they do this in the middle of tournaments? |

We don't know. Then the guy let his kids form a team and play in the tournament, so while the other band earned their way to a bye with the highest score in the first round, they played against kids ranging from 4-12years old. They may of well have been given a free pass to the finals. They went on to win the tournament, and I'm not taking anything away from them, they definitely were the best team out there, but I just don't feel they had a challenge in the first round.
Then before we really get started with the second round semi-finals, the guy says he has to take his kids home and someone else finished directing the tournament. After the first band, noone else was allowed to use their own instruments, the instruments they had were broken-down and barely useable. And in the finals, the drums kept slipping and sliding across the stage floor.
We placed 3rd, and the experience was definitely a memorable one, but hopefully next year all these problems will be corrected, because it wasn't a fair competition.

^ even though we won first, I have to agree that what happened with the whole "bye" thing was totally bogus.
Yes, we did have the highest score out of all the bands on the bracket in the first round. But we didn't even get a chance to lose (if you know what I mean.)
To be honest, me and my band were actually complaining that we were "only going to be able to play 3 songs total for the tournament." LOL
It just didn't seem fair to the other 2 bands in the finals..

Crowding was bad at CoD4 at the start, we opened up a spare room to hold the waiting teams. It cleared out the congestion so fast. :)
Also upon my request the tourny director posted the brackets outside, helped with the congestion of teams coming and going looking for their spot in line. |

to the OP, rules were posted in the tournaments section on the forums, so as for that u cant complain
Coaches have been a thing in competitive halo going on 4 years now, its someone that helps with callouts and helps time weapons and powerups
the tourney started running smoothly then took a turn for the worse when it got crunch time, the finals was 1 game which was kinda lame and it had to be a slayer, Slayer in H3 is random IMO
Next year when people preregister there needs to bring a screen that lays out guidelines about what to do with ur tourney, Stay close by, your in a tourney kids that show up to a tourney then walk away and arent their for their matches, sorry for ya but someone is getting a bye
Also IF U HAVE A WIRELESS CONTROLLER DO NOT BRING THAT THING ANYWHERE NEAR THIS EVENT AGAIN PLEASE, BC U CANT SHOW THE MATURITY TO NOT BE A DICK HEAD IN THE HALL WAY AND CAUSE PROBLEMS IN THE ROOM AS U TURN BOXES OFF AND ON AND BRING UP MENUS AIM- Professorpwns

@professorhacker: I read the forum after I got home. But even then, it just mentions oddball. Atleast they could have put on the tourney page something like "more information on forums." But I don't care anymore, now that I know that CTF is in the line up, I can practice for that.
And still, I think that coaches shouldn't be in the room since at times, they will be calling out things that can mess up others, especially since there is more than one game at a time. Also, it was a 4v4 tourney. Having a coach is almost like having a 5th team member in my opinion.
Also, spectators are alright when they aren't pressing against you. But, there was one point where my team could barely get to our seats. I think, therefore Haruhi exist
