Well we would love to host a PC Shooter but we have not had any positive feedback that people would join one. We had Unreal Tournament III last year and it barely had enough players to make it work. If we had enough captial and interest to get copies of Counterstrike, or Team Fortress 2 we would do so. Until then please bare with us and come and join us this year!

I have been the past four years. Definitely not going to miss this year. Just dissapointed a bit in the lack of diversity in tournaments. Would have liked to have sen some 2v2 matches this year. Oh well. I will be entering something.
Btw I got third last year in UT3 (changed to Open Arena). I think more people would have played but it wasn't ran to smoothly in terms of the PC server for UT3 being down so we had to play a completely different game... |

First off I want to say... sweet. The thought that good PC tournaments will be here this time is great. Secondly I would like to say that I was registered for the Unreal III tournament last year and it really didn't turn out good at all. It was delayed for probably an hour and a half and then turned into the open arena tournament. Being Unreal III, I was really looking forward to that. It was really the only PC tournament worth playing. I am glad to see a new genre though for the consoles. Having Dirt 2 will at least give me something else I can play with out having to be a mercenary with an xbox or playstation controller. Respect to the management though that get the events and sponsors together because the event does get better each year. I am a dedicated fan of the CGS so just keep doing what you do and sooner or later I'll probably get what I want anyways :) Take care and I look forward to seeing everybody again in 2010! |

Unreal was nuts, I can't tell you how many hours I spent trying to make that game run on our systems. The dell PCs were good enough but the network code in their onboard nics was garbage and kept throwing out bad packets which would freeze unreal up once you started multiplayer. It was very random and impossible to fix at the time. We updated the BIOS for the motherboard, NICs, and loaded new system drivers and NIC drivers. Never could keep a game going longer than 5 minutes.
We tried all the way up to the wire to figure it out but I should have known after spending 2 weeks in the lab working on it that it just wasn't going to happen.
Hopefully with new PCs and a new game we will see vast improvements!

Hey stelker. First off, you play open arena like a beast. Secondly, I guess yes on the pc game for dirt 2 from what M.E. said. I'm playing on my pc as well and not the xbox version. Hopefully the pc tournaments will start popping up. I'd love to do a team fortress 2 match. |

I find it odd that we would have Dirt 2 seeing as how its a pretty graphic intensive game (even when you turn the graphics down, from what I remember) - have the PCs at the school been upgraded since last year?
I am terrible at any and all racing, sports, and arcade fighters - unless we have a first person shooter I'll be in the StarCraft tournament. Speaking of which, can someone point me to the rules posting for that game please? Thanks :) |

Stelker,
We are currently trying to decide two things:
Dirt 2 (PC Rally or XBOX FFA) or Both, I personally want both, and here is how we'd do it:
4 XBOX's networked in the room listed on the tournament page.
1 Uber PC (maybe 2) running Dirt 2. Whenever you are not competing on the XBOX you could just get X number of tries to lock in a great time on the PC rally competition. Best times of the day would be announced at the awards ceremony!
We feel confident we can do 3 LCD screens per PC right now, and just need to figure out which controls we want you to use.
The Unknown FPS:
We are testing Quake 4 and Unreal 3 right now, trying to determine which runs best. If neither run well we will likely do another Unreal 2004 tournament or Q3A.
I really hope to announce this tournament this week but unfortunately there are obvious choices for a great PC FPS that would be easy for us to do on short notice.
We will keep you updated and I promise we are doing the best we can with the equipment we have!
Hopefully nobody will get mad if none of the above happens but it is what we are trying to figure out. Please give us any feedback you may have, good or bad!

Team Fortress 2 would be an awesome game addition. I don't believe it would be hard to setup with the lan because of the TF2 Steam Server. It would be nice to have arena matches or king of the hill battles if you wanted to do a team versus. I think Team Fortress 2 would definitely bring out more gamers than Unreal Tournament or Quake. I know at least a couple of local guys that have expressed an interest in a Team Fortress 2 tournament for the game summit. And again props goes to the admins for setting up the CGS. |

I would suggest Quake 3 if we're still looking at the same computers that were in that lab last year. Have you considered Quake Live? I don't know how to get that set up for LAN purposes but id software may be able to help you out. Quake Live is the updated/web version of Quake 3 Arena and may actually be easier to install as it only requires a browser plugin (it is also free). The downside is if competitors have not played before they will need to create an account. Shouldn't be too big of an issue hopefully.
Also I'd love to see some 1on1 action here :) |

I've been wanting to see CS or a similar team based shooter done since inception. With the dawn of the 'console generation' there just isn't enough interest. Sucks that my favorite platform seems to be dying and losing developer support (See MW2 fiasco), but what are you gonna do? Idiots and their Xbox's have some serious buying power. |
