Glad to see the forums coming back to life again.
Just some ideas that sound good on paper, but may be too complicated to actually work.
-Have all finals at the end ceremonies.
Assuming that scheduling will be much better this year, could there be the possibly of having the tournament finals for each game run back-to-back at the end of the day? A lot of people would be interested in watching the finals of most games to see what the region's best players can do, even if they don't play the game. It would also give the tournament portion of the summit look better organized and give the players something to look forward to when they are knocked out of the tourney.
I also noticed that the Q&A session and the prize ceremonies were sparsely populated, with mostly those who have placed in tournaments staying till the end to pick up stuff. It was kind of an anti-climax. :) Having the Q&A session close to finals time would help bring all the tournament and gaming industry attendees to one place at the end. Drawing raffles between each game would
-Post brackets online after the game
This helps us to learn who plays what games, and can help build a growing community around the tournament.
-Post the rules of tournaments run by 3rd parties
the Newegg/PNY/Intel/Nvidia sponsored gaming tournaments gave very few details about the tournaments they were going to run. All we knew about were "UT2004 instagib" and "Quake 4 ...", etc. It would have been nice to know what maps are to be used for those tournaments. |

Yeah i agree it is much more fun at the end if the finals are hosted there in front of everybody. We can just project the screens to where the crowd can see it and the other players can't so they can't be watching the other teams screen. This will be much more exciting.
One more thing i think that the team you play in the tournament should be in the next room instead of beside your t.v. screen. personally that was a problem when my team was playing b/c the other team was beside us and watching our screen. If we can get a long enough ethernet cord which shouldn't be a problem and hook up opposing teams in different rooms. I think things will goo a lot smoother.
thanx for reading guys! |

I attended an MLG event and noticed that our concept of quality was way off. We tried to locate HUGE TV's and really all we need is small 21" LCD's that we can put on a small little table and have teams basically sit facing each other MLG style. This will allow for much more players in the room and much less cheating. -= All your tournaments are belong to us =-

You're right, the size of the monitors don't really matter- it's the resolutions. It's MUCH cheaper to have $200 widescreen LCDs hooked up to the 360s with a $30 adapter than to have $1000 huge screens, you just sit closer to the screen. It acutally makes the playing area more compact and the equipment's much easier to move/setup so it's a win-win idea. |

That is a good idea, was going to get LCD TV's to go into a XBOX 360 dev lab here at the school, but I think the VGA adapters would work even better. -= All your tournaments are belong to us =-

Yeah, these requests will take a lot of time. even so, I'd like to see at least a few games played on stage. |

yeah it would be nice to see some following of mlg rules a bit too. Such as in your Gears tournament you held a round at rooftops and kept the hammer of dawn in which they don't do in the mlg I am pretty sure. On top of that rooftops? Oh yeah and this year you should have a rule about being allowed to turn extreme content on and off because if you are allowed to turn it off some people were handicapping themselves for no reason. second place GoW 2008

This year we are partnering with several groups to bring the standards of our tournaments to an even higher level. I can not say if MLG rules will be upheld 100% or modified to suite our event, but either way we will do our best to make things run as smoothly as possible. -= All your tournaments are belong to us =-

Another thing you guys have to get right this year is actually getting tournaments started when they are supposed to be held. I had a few friends last year playing in the guilty gear tournament who left before it even started because you guys were so far behind schedule. Oh and are there actually going to be some expositions this year other than some mouse pad guy and one comp running a high end graphics card? I mean I am sure most of the people in attendance come for the tournaments but if you are gonna call in an expo there should be more expo. Also try to get some more interesting speakers, not to knock them but they were pretty dull. Best thing their whole speech was that kid asking about gaming music and the other question about the PS3 failing. second place GoW 2008

MeatLoaf,
First I take full responsibility for the fighting tournament issues. Most of our tournaments did run on time, it was mainly the fighters that we could not keep on schedule (mainy because of super high attendance, which is a good thing right?)
But you must have missed the 18-wheeler sitting just outside the building, or the huge Bawls tent sitting right in the middle of the atrium... or one of the other 20 exhibitors on site. I promise we will have even more this year. If you have some special requests please let us know.
I am amazed at the speaker comment we had a live demo of GRAW 2 before the game was released by the Managing Director for the company who made the game... That was just one speaker, WE HAD 18 OTHERS from all across the Country.
Meatloaf, please explain who you would like to show up (and no Bill Gates won't be making an appearance. Neither will Shigeru Miyamoto) although I'd love to have either of those two. I'm pretty sure it would cost more to get them here than it does to run the entire event for a year.
I feel that we brought a very strong lineup for our second year. This being our 3rd you should see our event grow even more. -= All your tournaments are belong to us =-

yeah I was a little harsh I suppose. Sorry about that. I think i was just thinking about the fighting game thing the whole time i was writing that. Seriously you guys did a good job last year and I am sure it will be even better this year. Someone from epic would be a cool speaker though. I think I just missed most of the expo stuff because of tournaments. Once again my bad guys. Oh yeah and i was wondering, I just got my ticket today, if there will be some kind of preregistration for tournaments? second place GoW 2008

I upgraded your account manually, the only problem will be later when we add the ability for your to see past transactions and things. You have the registered status but do not have any Paypal transaction data stored in our database.
It is no big deal, I am going to see if I can force paypal to remind people just how important it is to be redirected back. -= All your tournaments are belong to us =-

We have improved some space usage upstairs. There isn't much that can be done but we have done what we can.
The college is looking into building a new building large enough to hold graduation inside. That would likely help a lot!
The key thing this year will be to have enough volunteers so that I can expand the event to cover two buildings.
Please note all of the above is forecasting, ie stuff that won't likely happen until the next event or later.

great job this year. everything seemed to run very smoothly. most of the tournaments started on time and it all was just very well organized. applause to michael and his team for doing such an amazing job. there is very little i wouldve changed about the event this year. |
